winter visitor

Standard
blackbird in my garden, one wintry morning

blackbird in my garden, one wintry morning

One cold wintry morning
I saw you out there
Amidst the grey and white
A small black movement
Rather familiar to me

All around was like early evening
Dark, frozen, bare
But you hopped about for light
For some winter nourishment
To survive and remain free

I’m grateful for the season’s blessing
Though the ground is dead beyond care
My winter visitor brings me delight
Little blackbird do frequent my garden
Your sing-song my only sweet melody
