leibster-blog-award

Back in January, I received the Liebster Award from a lovely Japanese blogger, Happy Yuan. This award is given by bloggers to other bloggers with fewer than 200 followers. I had less followers back then, but now I’m close to having 200! Quite frankly, I’m not really bothered by the numbers, I know there are people out there who read my blog regularly without actually signing up as a follower. But the more the merrier as they say, always happy to see my blog hits escalate steadily! This blog serves as an outlet for me to note down my emotions, feelings and experiences, to a certain extent that is. I am no professional writer nor photographer; I am a simple Easterner who’s now living permanently in the West, a devoted wife and mother, a dear daughter and sister, a loyal friend to those precious few. That’s me in a nutshell, and my blog themes normally revolve around my roles in life as mentioned. Those interested or curious are welcome to read! Anyway, amidst the hustle and bustle of life which keeps me forever busy, I suddenly realised that I haven’t kept my promise to Happy Yuan, to answer the 11 questions which she posed to all the bloggers she nominated. I hope she will forgive me for the long delay, here they are finally as listed below. As usual blog awards come with many rules and require some work. But I have bent the rules (I did go the whole hog with my first blog award!) and just focused on those 11 golden questions!

  1. What is your New Year’s resolution? To live simply, to be grateful for every little happiness that comes my way, to appreciate everyone and everything around me that lifts my spirits up.
  2.  What time do you go to bed? Depends on the season; around 8-9pm in the winter months, 10-11pm in the summer months.
  3. What foods do you like? Malay followed very closely by Indian. Click on the two words for a huge variety of samples!
  4. Which celebrities do you like? I used to like quite a few in the past but I don’t really see the point anymore. I would rather admire the everyday people around me who exude positive energy into my life.
  5. When is your happy time in your life? I have many happy moments throughout my life; the main ones however are my wedding day, the birth of each of my 4 children and the present, I feel truly blessed.
  6. What is your favorite color to wear? I used to love purple alone but now anything goes. Burgundy suits me well at the moment.
  7. Do you collect anything? Not really. Unless you include those coins that’s always lying around everywhere, I make sure they go into containers/bags. And those fridge magnets that’s covering my white fridge door, if that counts!
  8. What kind of music do you like? Those soothing to the ears.
  9. If you were given USD 10,000 and had to spend in a few days, what would you spend for? That’s £6,500 for me to spend; probably book a luxurious family holiday, buy expensive presents for my loved ones and myself, donate to charity/orphanage/needy.
  10. What do you think of your blog? I think highly of my blog; my very own space to jot down my ramblings, a place for me to reflect and think aloud, an escapism from the daily grind.
  11. What do you think of my blog? Interesting; a great insight into Japan and Japanese way of life through the eyes and mind of a wonderful blogger. Do read her blog, Happy Yuan Fun Life.

That’s all for now folks. Over and out. Wishing all my readers a great weekend and a productive week ahead! I shall be chilling indoors, as the April showers are well and truly here! I also take this opportunity to welcome all my new readers and followers, welcome aboard! Read and you shall learn. To all my dear regulars, thank you so much for sticking around! 🙂

from the cover of one of my favourite novels!

Be not afraid of growing slowly, be afraid of only standing still.

I feel happy today, my blog has reached the 1 year milestone! I look back at the time when I wished I had a blog of my own, secretly admiring the blogs of several people I used to know personally. I wondered to myself whether I could turn that dream into reality. Alhamdulillah, Praise be to God, I have lived my dream for a whole year now! I would like to thank everyone who’s supported my blog; my beloved hubby and four children, my dearest sisters, a relative or two, my good old friends, my followers, commenters and fellow bloggers. My blog means a whole lot more with your presence and encouragement! My blogging experience has also opened up my world in more ways than one, truly inspiring and educational. I hope to venture into my second blogging year with the same vigour and spirit, I  take pride in this simple blog of mine and I enjoy it immensely. A space of my own where I can share my chattering, thoughts, feelings and experiences with everyone. So do stick around and join me in my journey ahead, more insight into the heart and mind of this humble Easterner in a Western world. Thank you once again to all from the bottom of my heart. Have a lovely weekend!

mini blogathon

Standard

There’s this blog game which has been going round amongst fellow WordPress bloggers, and I’ve been lucky enough to be tagged twice! Which means it’s time for me to acknowledge it without further ado. The rules of the game are as follows:

1. Each person tagged must post 11 things about themselves.
2. They must also answer the 11 questions the ‘tagger’ has set for them.
3. They must create 11 more questions to ask bloggers they have decided to tag.
4. They must then choose 11 bloggers and tag them in their post.
5. These lucky bloggers must then be told.
6. There are no tag backs.

I’ve decided to bend the rules a little, hence the reason for the title ‘mini blogathon’. I’m not going to post 11 things about myself, I’ve revealed so much already in my previous 90 posts! Nor will I create 11 questions to ask other bloggers, I have in the past created my own blog game along similar lines. Therefore no 11 bloggers will be tagged, you’re off the hook! However, I will answer the 22 questions posed by the two bloggers who tagged me. This in itself took me quite a while! The first set of questions came from Diana, a lovely young blogger. Nabadip is the other blogger who tagged me, another talented young person I admire, in my opinion they both write really great posts straight from the heart. Do check them out!

Right, let me answer Diana’s 11 questions first:

1Share one or more things that blogging has taught you. Blogging has certainly opened up my world; I enjoy learning about other people on the planet, both from the East and the West, it helps me understand and appreciate the similarities and differences in our vast life experiences, truly enriching indeed.

2Share one or more things about blogging that you want to change. Quite happy with they way things are at present!

3Between present and past, what is the biggest good/bad change in You? Good change: I’ve learnt to let go of a lot of things, and I feel happier for it. Bad change: I’ve put on incredible weight, I need to lose it, desperately!

4. How do you prefer to spend your free time? Spending quality time with my family (as reflected in many of my posts) and reading of course, I’ve always read from a very young age.

5. Which place will you choose – an evening on beach, snow-clad mountains, a night in desert, a cool garden or at home with AC on in front of TV. I miss the tropical beach back in my homeland, Malaysia, therefore that would be my first choice, followed by a cool garden in England, lots more to explore!

6. Which new language you will like to learn? Urdu, most of the Indo-Pak people in England speak it, I wish I could too. I also think it’s a beautiful language after Arabic and before French.

7. Have you prayed for something? What is that? Did you get it? Prayer is my spiritual nourishment, I cannot function properly without it. It’s not about getting what I want, it’s more about finding peace. Everything in life has been ordained by God, therefore my prayers will come true if they’re right for me at the time. If not, another time perhaps, or not at all, in which case what I prayed for may not be good for me after all.

8. If I had got one more chance… Have you ever felt so? Sometimes…I would always want to improve things given the chance. After that, I try to move on, no point dwelling on something that’s not meant to be.

9. Which fiction character could you relate to the most? I’m not sure, but I admire Belle from Beauty & the Beast; her love for reading and wanting to explore more of the world, her beauty and grace, her ability to bring out the best in another and to look beyond first appearances.

10. Which is your favorite Cartoon character? Belle!

11. Are you afraid of dark? No, should I be? I remember a friend at University who was though, it annoyed the rest of us in the room when she insisted the lights on at bedtime each night!

Let me move on to Nabadip’s 11 questions now:

1. Why did you take up blogging? To fill the void after closing my Facebook account for good. My reason for doing so, read my very first post, why blogging. I also felt the need to express myself freely, blogging seemed to be the best option.

2. Ever wanted to get your works published? It would be nice. I’ve had simple articles published as an undergrad trainee journalist back in my homeland, and a few short lines recently on Merdeka Day for a Malaysian magazine pull-out.

3. Most embarrassing moment?! Let it be my well-kept secret! 🙂

4. What do you think was the biggest mistake in your life? Er,if any! There are no mistakes in life, everything that happens has a purpose to serve, there is great blessing behind every incident, even the bad ones.

5. Favorite author, and why? Enid Blyton, she brings back memories of my childhood; how I developed my love for reading and sense of curiosity about the world.

6. A lonely evening reading a book,or out partying with friends? what would you pick? I would prefer a book when I’m not in the mood to socialise, otherwise I enjoy meeting a bunch of friends for a ladies’ nite, usually at one of our houses, over tea/coffee and cakes, without husbands and children. Amazingly though the topic of conversation will always revert to our husbands and children! 🙂

7. The best post on your blog? Weekly Photo Challenge: Happy

8. How many friends from your school days are you still in touch with? (I have my own selfish reason for asking this one!) A handful, we’ve known each other since we were 13 at boarding school in Malaysia. They are my closest and most trusted friends, irreplaceable.

9. The happiest moment in your life? My wedding day, being married to the man I love, the man I realised I could not live without.

10. Your most cherished possession? My wedding and anniversary rings

11. One change you would like to see in yourself? Growing closer to God and less attached to this world with each passing day till my last…

Thank you once again Diana and Nabadip for including me in this wonderful mental exercise! I would also like to take this opportunity to welcome all my new readers and followers, and thank all the existing ones for taking the time to read my chattering from this little corner of the globe. My blog means a whole lot more with all of you out there reading it, thanks!

As much as I enjoy blogging and sharing away my thoughts, feelings and experiences, I am also quite keen to get to know my readers a little. Therefore I’ve set up 5 questions for you to answer, I hope you will take part! If you can’t answer all of them, don’t worry, answer away those you can. I shall reveal my answers to the same questions in my next post. Hope to hear from all of you! Thank you for your time and participation, looking forward to reading them. These are in no way trick questions, they are just for fun, to break the ice so to speak, so feel free to share and be as spontaneous as you can! 😉

  1. If money were no object, what kind of car would you drive/want to be driven in?
  2. What is the most expensive single item you’ve ever bought/bought for you?
  3. What is the strangest thing you’ve ever seen?
  4. Where in the world would you most like to visit next and why?
  5. What is one quality you admire most in another person?

Time for me to acknowledge two more blog awards bestowed upon me recently, am truly honoured indeed! I received the ‘Very Inspiring Blogger Award’ below from two fellow bloggers on the very same day, 24 hours after publishing my previous post entitled ‘my inspiration‘. Reminds me of the saying ‘what comes around goes around’! A warm heart-felt thanks from me to both lovely bloggers, Dana The Actress and Aneesa and Faraaz for the nominations, you certainly made my day when I received them within hours of each other! These bloggers attained the same award from some other inspiring fellow bloggers before they passed it on to me, so it’s a must to check their blogs out, read and be inspired! The ‘Best Follower Award’ below was awarded to me just after posting a long acknowledgement on my very first ‘Lovely Blog Award’. To be honest I was thoroughly exhausted in preparing this particular post, deciding upon the top 15 bloggers to pass on the award to was not an easy process for me, not to mention very time-consuming indeed! And now that I’ve discovered more wonderful bloggers out there I’ve decided to bend the rules a little, no passing on awards this time around! However, I would like to thank The White Pumpkin Light (an amazing blogger, a must read) for this lovely nomination, it’s always a real pleasure when others recognize and acknowledge your blog! I also realized how important it is for a blogger to be a good follower too, for blogging is a two-way process, otherwise it would be like talking to myself, and for that my daily personal diary would have been sufficient. A dear blogger friend commented on how my blog has transformed from a rose bud to wonderful blooms, this certainly would not have been possible without the support, interest, feedback and inspiration from other bloggers and readers out there!

All in all, blogging has been a lovely experience for me so far (8 months now). As mentioned in one of the posts featured in Freshly Pressed recently, a good blog ought to be informative, entertaining and inspiring. I truly agree with this, and I shall try my best to improve my posts along these lines. Likewise, I read other blogs to be informed, educated, entertained and inspired, definitely a two-way process! I remember how I hesitated in allowing comments on my posts when I began blogging. Now I can see how important they are, for without them I wouldn’t know my readers’ thoughts and feelings on what I’ve shared. As with the ‘like’ button, it’s always nice to be appreciated, even if you cannot think of anything to say! I know some bloggers question the sincerity of their readers, whether they mean it when they press the ‘like’ button or hoping to get more links to their blogs instead. I, however, wish to take my readers at face value. I can only judge your actions, your intentions you yourself know and have to live by. So thank you my dear readers from the bottom of my heart; do keep on reading, commenting (keep it sweet though, respect and tolerance high on my list) and liking my posts! These awards wouldn’t have been mine without you, my blog would’ve resembled a barren landscape without you! 🙂
